Our biggest Compassion Initiative of the year was today, our “For The City” event. We blessed individuals in our community with a garage sale, oil changes, hair cuts, family picture, kids events…all for free. It was a great day. Our volunteers were awesome and we got to meet some great people.

This past Sunday we started a new series called Jesus for President, in which we look at the “agenda” that Jesus laid out for his Kingdom in the Sermon on the Mount.

Above is the series slide and our new stage design that I created for the fall.

Prayer Day

Today is a Staff Prayer day for the Crossing. It means that we shut down the office and spend the day out in prayer for the church and for our own relationships with God. It is a day of contemplation, meditation and rejuvijnation. Here are a few things I will be praying today, I would love for you to join me in them when you have the time and space to do so:

Our House - We are keeping this at the top of the prayer list until God shows up. We still own our home in Moweaqua and are praying for a buyer to come along quickly.

The Crossing - There are many ups and downs with a church of 18 months. We are very excited about the season that God is bringing us into and praying for lives to be changed.

Kate - She loves her job at Berryhill and I want to pray that God will use her to reach student and other teachers with the love of Christ.

Relationships - Kate and I have been blessed by many new relationships here and even the chance to renew some old ones as well. We know that God will bless us deeply through those and are also praying that we will meet some neighbors and friends that are far from God so that we can love them with His love.

Thank you for your continual prayers and support, it means so much to us as we get settled into ministry in Tulsa.

Summer Splash

On Saturday our church was set to host a community event called Summer Splash for families and kids to come out and enjoy the fleeting days of summer.

The day was definitely a “splash”…but unfortunately it was because of the unexpected rain that would not let up. We had to cancel the event.

Even though we got rained on all morning, Kate and I tried to stay positive (we even made a few trips down the slip-n-slides).

It was discouraging after the work and preparation, but we understand that events are not what is most important. We look forward to the people that God puts into our path in this area.

I love the work that Josh Tandy does over at Rookie Pastor. I had the privelege of following him as Student Minister in Moweaqua and have connected with him ever since. He and his wife just had a baby, so he took some time off from blogging but set up a great series called “Rookie Pastor Paternity Leave” in which he invited friends in to share a bit of their ‘expertise.’
